Example photo: a framed impressionist painting of a seaside village at sunsetPhoto
The painting comes alive: clouds drift and the village windows light up
Video, made on VidStride
Made on VidStride from this photo with our previous video model. Prompt: “The painting comes alive: the sea ripples, the boats rock gently in the harbor, clouds drift across the sunset sky and lights flicker on in the village windows, while the gold frame and wall stay still.”

How to turn a photo into a video

  1. Pick a template

Each template has its motion written for you. Or switch to Photo to video and describe your own.

  2. Add one photo

A JPG, PNG or WebP up to 3 MB of a pet, product, object, artwork or place.

  3. Preview, then download

The video renders in a few minutes and passes a content check. Watch the free 480p preview; any purchase unlocks the 720p MP4 with sound.

Photo to video examples

Each pair is an example photo and the video made from it on VidStride with one of our templates, using our previous video model. New videos are made with Grok Imagine Video 1.5 and include sound.

  • Example photo: a corgi standing on its hind legs on a backyard lawnPhoto

    Video

“The corgi dances happily on its hind legs, bouncing from side to side to an upbeat rhythm and waving its front paws, joyful, static camera, full body in frame.”

Photo to video and image to video, one click away

Pick a template, add one still image and VidStride animates it into a 5-second 720p video with sound, using xAI Grok Imagine Video 1.5. Photo to video and image to video mean the same thing here: a phone photo, a product shot, an illustration, an AI image or a straight-on picture of a painting all work as the starting frame. The video keeps the framing of your image.

It is not a slideshow maker: it does not stitch several photos together or add transitions and music tracks. It makes one image move.

Every template also has its own page with more results: try pet dance, product 360 spin and animate painting.

Photos that work best

Pick a sharp, well-lit photo with one clear subject and some space around it. Busy scenes with many small subjects, heavy blur and tiny text tend to warp, and text or logos may change, so check them before you publish.

Pets, products, objects, artwork and places are supported. Photos of real people are blocked before a run starts. Upload only images you have the right to use; prompts and photos are screened before a run, and sampled frames of every video are checked before you can preview it.

Writing your own motion

On the Photo to video tab, name the subject, then one main action and one camera move: "the cat turns its head and blinks, slow push-in" or "waves roll onto the beach, clouds drift, static camera". Five seconds is short, so several unrelated actions are often blended or dropped. Say what must stay still, for example "the frame and the wall stay still".

Photo to video questions

Is this photo to video tool free?

New accounts get 20 free credits, enough for two videos as 480p previews, with no card needed. Each video costs 10 credits, and downloading the 720p HD file needs any purchase; credit packs start at $4.99 for 60 credits.

Is image to video the same as photo to video?

Yes. Both mean animating one still image into a short clip. Here you can upload a photo, an illustration, an AI image or a picture of artwork, as long as it is a JPG, PNG or WebP up to 3 MB.

Do I have to use a template?

No. Templates are the one-click option with the motion already written. Switch to the Photo to video tab to describe your own motion for the same 10 credits.

Can I turn a photo of a person into a video?

Not at the moment. VidStride supports pets, products, objects, artwork and places. Photos of real people are blocked before a run, and there is no face swap.

Can I make a slideshow from several photos?

No. This tool animates one image into one clip with AI motion. To combine many photos with music and transitions, use a video editor or slideshow maker.

What happens if a video fails?

If the video service reports a failure, or a content check blocks the result, the credits for that video are returned to your balance.

Each template has its own page with more real results and tips for the photo it needs.
